Kenya Bound...

So I thought no better way to break the silence here than with an exciting announcement…

I’m going to Africa!!  For over two years, I have been thinking and praying about an opportunity to visit this part of the world and be a part of what the Lord is doing over there.  I didn’t know exactly what this looked like, I just knew I wanted to be with the widows and the orphans of this country.  And the time has finally come…

On April 14th I will journey to Kenya for two weeks with a team from SERV International.  Here are some highlights of what our trip will look like...

• Love on the children (many of which are orphans) who live in Kibera, one of the largest slums in the world.
• Build homes for widows in Kisumu, a western city in Kenya.
• Spend the majority of our time in the African village, Lodwar, at House of Hope. House of Hope is SERV’s total care orphanage that is home to 30 children.  This leads to what I am most excited about…We will be rescuing five orphaned children and bringing them to House of Hope!  When our leader, Joe, was telling us about this part of the trip I got chills.  To think that a child will go from a world filled with feelings of abandonment and loneliness to a home filled with love and care gets me so pumped!

I have no idea what the Lord has in store for us on this trip.  Everyone I know that’s journeyed to this part of the world has come back changed.  Forever changed.  They’ve been marked by something far greater than words can express.  And as much as I cannot wait to be with these beloved people and bring the hope, love, and care of Christ… I’m already acutely aware that they have much more to offer me than I could ever provide for them.

As I type this note, the words “until the whole world hears” popped into my head… It’s the title of a Casting Crown’s song that I haven’t heard in forever.  I googled the lyrics to find that they echo the desire and prayer of my heart...

Until The Whole World Hears

Lord I want to feel your heart

and see the world through your eyes

I want to be your hands and feet

I want to live a life that leads…

Let us shine the light of Jesus in the darkest night

May the powers of darkness tremble as our praises rise

and I pray that they will see more of you and less of me...
